Florida Gulf Coast University

Florida Gulf Coast UniversityFlorida Gulf Coast University has faculty with expertise in water quality, analytical chemistry, hydrodynamics, marine geochemistry, physiology, invertebrate zoology, plankton ecology, oyster-reef ecology, ecotoxicology and impact assessment. We are actively conducting research in the estuarine and near-coastal zones of southwest Florida from Charlotte Harbor south to Ten Thousand Islands and the southern tip of Florida. Data sets that have been collected on coastal resources in these waters could serve as an invaluable baseline for impact and recovery assessment for the Deepwater Horizon blowout. FGCU is therefore prepared to serve a lead role if southwest Florida were to be impacted by the oil or could serve as a reference site for comparison.
